Hi, I'm Melissa Dieterich!
I’m a wife to my wonderful and supportive husband of 24 years and mother to 2 wonderful boys!
I'm obsessed with all things Harry Potter 🪄and addicted to Dr. Pepper.
I've been photographing beautiful moms and their precious babies for 16 years.
Along with my extensive training, attention to detail and patience, safety is my number one concern, always.

Newborn FAQs:
Q: Why is it best to photograph babies between 7-9 days old?
A: This age window is best for capturing those curly, sleepy newborn photos you typically see on Pinterest and my website. That is because babies are still sleeping most of the day and aren’t as likely to be distracted by noises or outside stimuli. They also are still curled like they were in the womb.
Q: How long do newborn sessions take?
A: The short answer is 2 - 3 hours. As long as the baby is happy, I’m able to finish almost all my sessions in about 2 hours. But the baby runs the show and I always listen to their needs to keep them safe and happy. That means I always stop if needed for feedings and soothing.
Q: What do I bring with me?
A: Just you and the baby!I have all kinds of props, blankets, wraps, headbands and hats for both boys and girls in a range of colors and shades. You don’t have to bring anything unless you have a certain items you’d specifically like photographed. I also have extra diapers, wipes and almost anything else you would need..
Q: Do you practice newborn safety?
A: Always! I have taken numerous courses on newborn photography and have learned the best way to pose them to keep them safe at all times. I sterilize all outfits, blankets, and surfaces in my studio before the baby arrives, and wash all fabrics with All Free Clear laundry soap. I take my job very seriously, and that includes doing all I can to protect the littlest of my clients.
Maternity FAQs:
Q: When's the best time to shoot a maternity session?
A: The best time to shoot is week 30 - 36 of your pregnancy; we want to see that cute baby bump!
Q: How long do maternity sessions last?
A: This will depend on the session package you choose but my full maternity sessions take about 1 - 1.5 hours in total. This includes the time to choose wardrobe, and change outfits.
Q: What should I wear? Do you offer a client wardrobe?
A: Yes! I have about 30+ dresses that are handpicked and work beautifully for your maternity session! I offer a variety of styles and sizes. You may also wear a dress you purchase or rent yourself, but please note that I will provide suggestions of color and style as the clothing you choose to wear for your session will make a difference in the final product!
Q: What about hair and make-up?
A: Investing in hair and makeup is suggested but not mandatory! Whether you choose to hire an artist or do it yourself, I ask that hair and make-up be ready and done by the time we start the session. At the moment, I do not have a preferred hair and makeup artist, but I do have a list of a few I can give you. Your hands will more than likely be in a lot of shots, so please make sure there are no chipped nails.
What to expect at your newborn session
The studio will be fairly warm when you arrive. This is to ensure the baby is comfortable and warm throughout the session.
I usually have everything set-up ahead of time based on your answers on my questionnaire. I ask you to feed them either right before you come or as soon as you arrive.
I will have you undress the baby and change the diaper if needed.
If we are doing sibling and family images, I will start with those first.
Next, I will then take all the images of the baby alone.
If they are asleep and content I will usually start with poses on the bean bag. If they are awake and wiggly I will usually wrap them and put them in a prop.
I try to start with the images you want first incase we don’t get to everything. But I always follow the baby's cues and do what is best for them.
